Paik Prize
Nam June Paik Prize is awarded to artists who have contributed to the development of contemporary art, mutual understanding, and world peace. The aim of the prize is to promote the relevance of the art of Nam June Paik, who envisioned a world without conflict through experimental and creative exploration, to contemporary artists. The recipient is selected every two years and presents a solo exhibition the following year. Initially called the Nam June Paik Art Center Prize, the award was presented from 2009 to 2021 and then reorganized and renamed the Nam June Paik Prize in 2024. It is funded by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and hosted by the Nam June Paik Art Center.
Selection Process
· Executive Committee assembls the International Nomination Committee and Jury.
· One artist (or team of artists) will be nominated by each member of the Nomination Committee.
· Jury members review and select the recipient.
· The recipient’s exhibition and public programs including talks, performances, screenings, workshops, etc. will take place at Nam June Paik Art Center.
· One artist (or team of artists) will be nominated by each member of the Nomination Committee.

Nomination Criteria
· Nam June Paik Prize aims to acknowledge artists who:
· as Paik saw the artist’s role as consisting in “thinking about the future,” show groundbreaking vision into the future through incessant artistic exploration;
· as Paik was never restrained by canons and conventions, transcend disciplinary boundaries and are freely move between media art, performance, music, video and film to create a new artistic form;
· and demonstrate excellence in terms of creativity, experimentality and progressiveness of art-making, regardless of age and nationality.
· Artists who have contributed to world peace through the above practices and have left their mark on art history and deserve to be honored. *Living artists only who are significant for a solo exhibition at Nam June Paik Art Center in Korea.
