Mission
As christened by the artist himself, Nam June Paik Art Center aims to be a museum where Paik lives on. It is not just to remain a memorial for the artist, but to seek an active undertaking to increase the awareness of Paik’s work and life far and wide. The first public museum specializing in media art in Korea, Nam June Paik Art Center also embraces cutting-edge forms of media art and new generations of media artists, and devotes itself to cultivating artistic and scholarly experiments in creative and critical ways.

Aims
1. To encourage media art that turns technologies into critical forms of art:
- concentrate on contemporary artists pioneering a new terrain of art and technology
- collaborate with artists to invent media art museological formations
- create a ground of learning and experimenting to reflect on media society
2. To construct a knowledge base regarding Paik’s art and to raise its accessibility:
- conduct in-depth research on the laser work of Paik’s later period and its restoration
- publish technical information of collections as a specialized online resource
- promote and elaborate the video streaming platform of Paik’s archives
3. To contribute to the ecology of museums:
- diversify collaboration and partnership with artists and art institutions
- be open to popular arts and culture
- foster an organizational reflection on society and environment in everyday practices
