Nam June Paik Art Center’s first exhibition of 2025 is Random Access Project 4.0, which introduces eight young artists (seven teams) making experimental attempts in the contemporary art scene. The participating artists include Goyoson, Honam Kim, Saroot Supasuthivech, yang02, Chang Hanna, Hyeseon Jeong&Seongmin Yuk, and Han Uri. They delve into the pulse of today's new art while navigating a variety of genres and subjects.
The title of this exhibition is derived from Random Access , a work presented in Nam June Paik’s first solo exhibition Exposition of Music - Electronic Television in 1963. The poster of the groundbreaking experiment features Michel de Montaigne’s phrase “que sais-je?(What do I know?),” which implies Montaigne’s philosophy that questions absolute truths and established conventions. Montaigne’s question resonates with Paik’s artistic thinking and offers a timeless insight that is important for today’s young artists as they establish themselves in the art world.
The participating artists will reveal the underlying values hidden within modern civilization. They will also create cracks in stereotypes and gently break down their invisible boundaries. Thus, we hope that this exhibition will serve as a space that inspires free and flexible thinking with an open mind.
