Dalibor Martinis, Open Reel, 1976, Master 1/2", produced by Galleria del Cavallino (restored copy 3’05)
The Nam June Paik Art Center presents a special screening of Croatian experimental films to celebrate the opening of the exhibition Circuits of Chance. This screening offers a concise overview of how moving-image media have evolved from the 1960s to the present through a selection of Croatian experimental films and video works. The program includes early videos by artists participating in Circuits of Chance, allowing audiences to experience their practices in a broader context through works that could not all be shown in the exhibition.
The screening goes beyond simply presenting videos and instead raises the question, “What is an image?” Some works prompt viewers to see themselves rather than the screen, while others reveal the materiality of video tape as a medium. From films that expose the film strip itself, to works that experiment with cameras and recording devices, to recent pieces employing digital technology, experiments from different eras come together in a single program. After the screening, a conversation with participating exhibition artists will provide an opportunity to hear firsthand about their ideas and creative processes. We invite you to discover new possibilities and ways of experiencing moving-image art through works from diverse periods and approaches.
※ Consecutive interpretation will be provided for the artist talk.
