In conjunction with the exhibition Play It Again, Paik, Nam June Paik Art Center presents Random Access Hall screenings. The exhibition is an exhibition that showcases interview footage of Nam June Paik from the video archive of the Nam June Paik Art center alongside his artworks. In the Random Access Hall, you can watch the original video of the interviews featured in the exhibition.
The fifth screening program features Nam June Paik’s interview with Germany’s ARD television. Nam June Paik held a press conference on the occasion of his major retrospective Fluxus/Video at the Kunsthalle Bremen in 1999. The event drew particular attention among journalists, as Paik, then based in New York, conducted the interview via live satellite broadcast from a studio affiliated with the German public broadcaster ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen). In the interview, Paik named Nam June Paik - Das Gute Gewissen der Avantgarde (1977) as the best documentary and described Video Synthesizer as the culmination of everything he had created over the past twenty years—his most important work. When asked about the newly emerging Internet, he predicted that it would surpass video art and take on a pioneering role. His remarks on the importance of self-determination in media reflect Paik’s prescient insight into the future.
