Making NJP Art Center with a Single Sheet of Paper
Nam June Paik Art Center hosts 'NJP Channel Wednesday' to celebrate Culture Day.
Opened in 2008, the Nam June Paik Art Center is the world's only museum dedicated exclusively to Nam June Paik, named the 'House Where Nam June Paik Lives On' during his lifetime. Jointly designed by German architects Kirsten Schemel and Marina Stankovic, the building is renowned for embodying Paik’s artistic world through architectural space. The curved exterior of the building resembles the letter 'P'—the first letter of Paik's surname—as well as the shape of a grand piano, a motif that frequently appears in his works. The outer walls, composed of layers of mirrors and black bands, evoke the horizontal scan lines of a television. Meanwhile, the transparent glass windows reflect the passage of seasons and time, making the architecture itself feel like a living artwork.
