Drawing Video Installation is a video installation work consisting of three drawings and two videos, Drawing Video and Cover. Drawing Video, the main work, contains the record of Sung Hwan Kim’s live drawing performance at pushing against the air, in which Sung Hwan Kim, Byungjun Kwon, and David Michael DiGregorio participated together in 2007. pushing against the air was an ‘interview concert’ in which three artists from different cultural backgrounds talked about the music and culture they experienced. And Kim’s live drawing performance was part of it. pushing against the air was held three times. Drawing Video contains Kim’s monologue with the music played by DiGregorio and Kwon in the background and the conversation between Kim and DiGregorio during the three performances. The three repeated conversations sound very similar, but these are slightly different at each performance, as are the drawings. Cover, the other video of Drawing Video Installation, is the work of DiGregorio, who has collaborated with Kim for a long time. Cover, a 16mm film of a man taking a walk on the beach with a dog, forms the composition of Drawing Video Installation as a tribute to the collaboration of artists from different cultural backgrounds and the music of DiGregorio, which forms part of Kim’s work.
Drawing Video is part of the In the Room series, which are works created through variation, transformation, quotation, copying, and insertion of theme, material, and content. The artist assumes the room of In the Room, where various narratives occur, as a box. Then he regards the situation as a variation, in which a difference arises through imitation and improvisation whenever the songs and dissonances of various players and performers occur within it.
