Nam June Paik Art Center prepared an exhibition-related talk program about the Consultant, Nam June Paik based on his writings. The Consultant: Paik’s Papers 1968-1979 pays attention to Paik’s critical period of creation from 1964, when Paik moved to New York, and reveals Paik as a media consultant in the transitional time of society based on the proposals recorded in the report at the time.
This lecture aims to create and share various perspectives on the purpose and works of the exhibition and Paik by inviting outside experts and an audience. As a researcher in history of science and technology, Hyungsub Choi examines changes in technology, social background, and Paik’s proposal, which are found in “MEDIA PLANNING FOR THE POST INDUSTRIAL AGE” (1974) which was the basis for planning this exhibition among Paik’s papers. Following the lecture on Paik as a policymaker discovered from the perspective of a researcher in history of science and technology, Kim Yoonseo, curator of this exhibition will talk about other reports and exhibition works of Paik and moderate a Q&A session with the audience. We hope that many people come to the first exhibition-related talk in the new year 2023.
