Nam June Paik never gave up his will to create, think radically, and study despite his collapse from a stroke in 1996. Paik primarily worked on painting in the 2000s, as his physical constraints grew worse, yet the artist’s insight in life and artistic concept were portrayed in his typical immediate and humorous way. This work portrays the Avalokiteshvara with a thousand arms, one of his often-depicted motifs, in simplified lines. Written below are the Buddha’s Chinese name and part of a Buddhist prayer.
