Candle TV is a single candle lit in an empty steel casing of an old television. The candle illuminating the dark and empty space of the television case produces a sense of divinity and holiness of meditation, evoking powerful poetic associations that contrast technology. At the same time, showing the process of the candle creating light by burning matter and eventually dying out emphasizes television’s electric and immaterial nature. Also, by switching the electrical light of the television to candlelight, the work forms an “interactive loop,” as wholly burnt candles should be constantly replaced with fresh ones, highlighting the human-centered nature of technology.
