Layers of vertical and horizontal color lines cover the background, looking like TV scanning lines or noise signals. A loose outline of a rectangular form in black is painted over them. Short white stripes, as if scratched, appear to make the eyes, nose, and mouth of Nam June Paik’s typical rendition of an anthropomorphic television. What looks like an antenna protrudes from the upper-right edge of the rectangle. Using simplified forms of the TV with an antenna, Paik produced several ‘TV Drawings.’ This calls attention to television’s formal qualities and the media as a material object, rather than the broadcast content of the TV.
